These spooky Halloween cupcakes are CRAZY EASY and eerily delicious. Grab a bag of cookies & cream M&Ms to make our easy edible black widow spiders!
I have been SO eager to start making Halloween treats. So the moment September rolled around, BAM! I loaded up my cart in the Halloween candy aisle of Target.
PS- can we just take a moment to talk about how Target is selling FAMILY SIZED packs of Halloween Oreos?! ?? Hands down, the best tasting Oreos of all time.
Ok, back to cupcakes.
And spiders! Can a spider be cute? If so, I’d have to say that these little “black widows” are awfully cute.
I actually made a little video, just to show you how I made these! Don’t get your expectations up too high though. It is legit the worst food video of all time. But, I think you’ll get the gist…
See? Easy peasy! If you don’t have a silicone baking mat, you could also pipe the black melting candy onto wax paper or parchment paper. And if you can’t find black melting chocolate, you could always just use normal brown chocolate with brown peanut M&Ms!

Hope these get you into the Halloween/Fall mood! Enjoy 🙂

prep time: cook time: total time:

INGREDIENTS

For the Vanilla Cupcakes:

  • 3/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 – 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 2-1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2-1/2 cups flour
  • 1-1/4 cups milk
For the Frosting:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
M&M Candy Spiders

  • 48 Cookies & Scream Halloween M&Ms
  • Wilton’s melting candy in black

INSTRUCTIONS

Cupcakes:

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF. In a stand mixer, beat together the butter and sugar. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well in between each addition.
  2. Add the vanilla, baking powder, salt, flour, and milk. Mix just until batter forms.
  3. Line or grease 2 cupcake pans and divide batter evenly among the cups.
  4. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown on top. Let cool completely before frosting.
For the frosting:

  1. In a stand mixer, whisk together the butter and the shortening, scraping down the sides as needed, until smooth and blended.
  2. Add 1 cup powdered sugar and 1 tbsp vanilla, whisk until smooth.
  3. Add 1 cup powdered sugar and 1 tbsp milk, whisk until smooth.
  4. Repeat with remaining powdered sugar and milk, scraping down the sides as needed.
For the Spiders:

  1. Melt the Wilton candy according to the directions on the package. Transfer melted candy to a large ziploc bag (I usually just melt my candy inside of the bag in the microwave). Push the melted candy to a corner. Snip the corner and pipe the spider body and legs onto a nonstick surface (like a silicone baking mat or parchment paper).
  2. Press an M&M on top of each piped spider body. Let cool completely and carefully peel off of the work surface.
Assembly

  1. Pipe the frosting on top of cupcakes. Place two spiders on each cupcake. Garnish with Halloween Sprinkles if desired!
