A few things to note about this recipe:

  • If you’re in a pinch for time, you can skip the homemade strawberry sauce and use a store-bought pie filling. However, be sure to thin it with water. Otherwise the filling won’t seep into the holes!
  • Another great shortcut is to use a cake mix for your strawberry cake (which is what I did!). But if you have a homemade cake recipe you’d rather use, go for it!
  • The pirouettes are totally optional. Other great toppings would be white chocolate chips, a strawberry sauce drizzle, fresh strawberries, and chocolate shavings!

What’s my favorite part of this recipe?

I ADORE my mom’s strawberry sauce, and I love the way it soaks into this cake. It’s seriously so good!

Yield: 9×13 Sheet Cake

Strawberry Poke Cake

Strawberry Cake soaked in homemade strawberry sauce, spread with a whipped topping, and topped with white chocolate-filled pirouettes.

prep time: cook time: total time:

ingredients

Strawberry Cake, baked in a 9×13 baking dish and still warm (you can use a cake mix or a recipe from scratch)

1 recipe homemade strawberry sauce

16 ounces Cool Whip

White Chocolate Pirouettes, cut into pieces

instructions

Poke holes all over the warm cake using the bottom of a wooden mixing spoon (see photos in post).

Pour the strawberry sauce over the cake, aiming for the holes (the strawberry pieces will remain on top of the cake, of course). If desired, reserve some sauce for drizzling over the top of the cake. Let chill for at least an hour.

Spread the Cool Whip over the top of the cake. Top with the pirouette pieces. Chill for at least 3 more hours before cutting and serving.
