Ingredients Notes & Substitutions
All-Purpose Flour
- Note: This is the base of your dough, providing structure and texture.
- Substitution: You can use bread flour for a chewier texture, but the rolls may not be as tender.
Fleischmann’s® Rapid Rise Yeast
- Note: Rapid Rise Yeast helps the dough rise quickly, reducing the overall preparation time.
- Substitution: You can use active dry yeast, but it will need to be activated in warm water and may take longer to rise.
Whole Milk
- Note: Provides moisture and richness to the dough.
- Substitution: You can use 2% milk or even almond milk for a dairy-free option, though the texture may slightly differ.
Honey
- Note: Adds sweetness and helps with browning.
- Substitution: Maple syrup or agave nectar can be used, though the flavor will slightly change.
Salted Butter
- Note: Adds flavor and tenderness to the dough.
- Substitution: Unsalted butter can be used; just add an extra pinch of salt to the recipe. For a dairy-free option, use a plant-based butter (however, I can’t vouch for the results, because I’ve never tried this substitution).

Tips for Success
- Measure Ingredients Accurately: Use a kitchen scale for precise measurements, especially for the flour, to ensure the right dough consistency.
- Use Warm Milk: Make sure the milk is warm (around 110°F) to activate the yeast properly. Too hot or too cold milk can affect the yeast’s performance.
- Room Temperature Ingredients: Ensure the egg and butter are at room temperature to mix more easily and evenly into the dough.
- Knead the Dough Well: Knead the dough until it’s smooth and elastic. This helps develop the gluten, giving the rolls their perfect texture.
- Proof in a Warm Place: Allow the dough to rise in a warm, draft-free area to ensure it doubles in size properly. If your kitchen is cold, you can use the oven’s proofing function or place the bowl of dough in a warm oven (turned off).
- Don’t Overflour: Add flour gradually and only as much as needed to prevent sticking. Overflouring can make the rolls dense and dry.
- Watch the Bake Time: Keep an eye on the rolls as they bake. Overbaking can make them dry, so take them out when they’re just golden brown.
- Store Properly: Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days or freeze for longer storage. Reheat in a warm oven before serving.
Honey Butter Crescent Rolls Recipe
Sweeten up your day with this Honey Butter Crescent Rolls recipe! Light, flaky, and oh-so-delicious.
Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour plus more if needed
- 1 packet Fleischmann’s® Rapid Rise Yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup warm whole milk
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 4 tablespoons salted butter at room temperature
- 1 large egg at room temperature
- flaky sea salt for topping
HONEY BUTTER
- 6 tablespoons salted butter melted
- 3 tablespoons honey
Instructions
- In a stand mixer bowl, combine the flour, yeast, and salt. Add the warm milk, honey, egg, and butter. Using the dough hook attachment, mix until the dough comes together and the flour is fully incorporated, about 4-5 minutes. If the dough feels sticky, gradually add the extra 1/4 cup of flour. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rest at room temperature for 15 minutes or up to a few hours.
- To prepare the honey butter, mix the butter and honey together in a small bowl until well combined.
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Lightly flour your work surface. Turn the dough out onto the surface, punch it down, and divide it into two equal portions. Roll each portion into a 12-inch square, approximately 1/4-inch thick. Brush each square with the honey butter, reserving any remaining butter for later. Cut each square into 6 strips. Roll each strip into a coil (refer to photo above) and place them seam-side down in the prepared baking dish.
- Cover the dish and allow the rolls to rise for about 30 minutes, until they are puffy. Alternatively, you can refrigerate the rolls overnight.
- Bake the rolls for 18-25 minutes, until they are golden brown. Remove from the oven and brush with the remaining honey butter. Serve warm with flaky sea salt, pulling the rolls apart to enjoy.
