Ingredients & Supplies for Instant Pot Easter Eggs

  • whole eggs, raw
  • water
  • vinegar
  • food coloring or egg dye (NOT gel food coloring)
  • 3 mason jars (I used this size)
  • an Instant Pot

How to Dye Eggs in the Instant Pot

1. Add water to the bottom of the Instant Pot.

You only need a cup or two. Just enough liquid to build up the pressure inside!

2. Place the mason jars inside the instant pot and the vinegar and food coloring.

I liked using wide mouth jars, because it made handling the eggs so much easier. If you don’t have any mason jars, you can use any glass jar (like a leftover jam jar!) that can withstand the heat.

3. Place the eggs inside the jar and add water enough to cover the eggs.

4. Set the Instant Pot time for 7 minutes.

5. After the cycle runs and the steam releases, put the hot jars in the sink and run cold water over the jars.

I’ve heard that the color will sink in the longer you leave the eggs in the instant pot. However, they’ll probably be overcooked. So how long you choose to let the steam release (quick release or natural release) will just depend on if you care more about the color or the taste of the eggs.

The eggs in my photos came out after a quick release. And you can see that the pink and the blue set in nicely, but the yellow turned out splotchy with a lot of really pale spots.

6. Move the eggs to an ice bath.

7. Let them dry completely.

This means overnight or for several hours. They won’t be dry all the way through after a quick towel dry. And until they are completely dry, the color can still transfer onto other things (like hands, clothes, etc…).
